What is the reason for the overload of Roots vacuum pump?

There are many reasons for the overload of Roots vacuum pumps. If the power required to tighten the gas is proportional to the differential pressure, and the gas differential pressure is too high, the pump may overload and the motor winding may burn out. There are several methods to deal with pump overload problems.

(1) Adopting mechanical automatic pressure regulating bypass valve. The bypass valve device is located in the bypass pipeline between the outlet and inlet of the Roots vacuum pump. The valve controls the differential pressure between the inlet and outlet of the pump to not exceed the rated value. When the differential pressure reaches the rated value, the valve automatically opens under the differential pressure, connecting the pump outlet and inlet, causing a sharp drop in differential pressure between the inlet and outlet. At this time, the pump operates without any differential pressure load. When the differential pressure is lower than the rated value, the valve automatically closes, and gas is attracted by the front pump through the pump. The pump with a bypass overflow valve works simultaneously with the front pump, simplifying unit operation.

(2) The hydraulic coupler adopts a hydraulic coupler, which can avoid the occurrence of pump overload and make the pump work under high pressure difference. The hydraulic coupling device is located between the pump and the motor. Under normal operating conditions, the hydraulic coupling transmits the rated torque from the motor to the pump. The differential pressure of Roots vacuum pump is determined by the torque transmitted by the hydraulic coupling, and the torque transmitted by the hydraulic coupling is adjusted according to the amount of liquid in it. When the pump operates under high pressure differential or starts at the same time as the front pump, differential rotation or sliding occurs inside the liquid coupling, only transmitting a certain amount of torque, and the pump slows down to work. As the exhaust stops, the gas load decreases and the pump gradually accelerates to the rated speed.

(3) Use vacuum electrical components to control the inlet pressure of the pump, and install pressure sensors such as vacuum box relays and electric contact vacuum pressure gauges on the inlet pipeline of the Roots vacuum pump. After the vacuum system is started, when the inlet pressure of the pump is lower than the specified value (the allowable starting pressure of the pump), the pressure sensor sends a signal to open the pump through the electrical control system (when the vacuum system is equipped with a pump bypass pipeline, the bypass pipeline valve is also closed). If the inlet pressure of the pump is higher than the specified value, the pump will be automatically shut off (or the pump bypass pipeline valve will be opened at the same time) to ensure the reliable operation of the pump.
